It's only somewhat silly...

...to post pictures of rooms whose furniture contents are completely different from what I have purchased. But I kind of like this room, and it's a neat idea to keep the sofa in front of bookcases.

I am less tired today...

So I guess I'm staying up past my bedtime. I've always adored the Crate and Barrel Petrie Sofa (in colors Snow, Graphite, Ivory, Ebony, Blueberry, and Ink). This is an apartment remodel I found off Design Sponge that features the Petrie. Awesome.


Ah, now if only my apartment weren't the size of this living room.

This living room is by David Greer and Andrew Halliday. I tried google-stalking them, hoping to find more pictures on their company website, but unfortunately, these people are the less famous pair with the same names.

The Eames Lounge Chair, the sheepskin rug, the combo of white/wood/black, and Russian stuff. I adore Russian stuff! And by that, I mean the idea of blood candy and Cheburashka. Unfortunately, the only Cheburashka posters I can find are not only pretty small but also Japanese.

I am cleaning out my folder of pictures to clear up hard drive space. For more important things like, yanno, Futurama.

Not the greatest lighting

With a little bit more light, this bedroom would be awesome, especially with the orange bedspread. I'd change the chair to dark blue or a lighter shade of gray. And of course, add more lamps.

These rooms are deceptively difficult

Like, at first glance, these rooms are just a collection of disjoint styles and colors. And you think to yourself, I can totally do this! Random chair here, different color there, wacky thrift shop find over yonder!


In the left picture, the chair, the random cylinder, and the print are all red? And the rug, the print on the floor, and the palm tree print are all black and white.

In the right picture, the sidetable and the legs of the coffee table are the exact same shade, and the firewood holder, the cube pillow, and the random bottle are all orange. Not to mention how the fireplace, the chairs, and the rug are all grey.

What coherence of vision.

Serena and Lily bedding

Alright, be honest. Who else thought immediately of the van der Woodsens?

I can't afford anything but the bedding at Serena and Lily, so thankfully, there's not much else that really appeals to me there. Though they've got some really fantastically named aesthetics. They could really teach Thomas Paul a thing or two about adjectives.

Lucky you, Gregory Phillips

So I love these rooms, but I'm not sure I'd love them half as much in a different light. Gregory Phillips gets to decorate the best places. Seriously! In two of the following pictures, HE HAS NO WALL. And in the rest of them, he's got these lovely, huge windows spanning the entirety of the room.

All I think this illustrates is the importance of ambient lighting. Lovely 2Modern How-To on lighting here.

And although these pictures do are mostly wood tones/white, I do really like that the overall effect is quite colorful and homey.

Cardboard Safari

Perhaps it's my poorly disguised fondness for the interior of the South Street Seaport Abercrombie, but I absolutely love these cardboard cutout animals (via Cardboard Safari: website and etsy). Unfortunately, they're all quite compelling, and I can't decide which one I want.

In addition to the above stag head, moose, bison, and rhino heads are also available.

Not to mention a complete, free-standing rhino.

And (wonder of all wonders!) an elephant head.

Something tells me that more than one cardboard animal per residence would be unreasonable, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Perhaps with enough skeepskin blankets and cowhide rugs, an effect could be achieved where one cardboard animal trophy per room would not be out of place.

Color Schemes

I'm quite fond of the colors of this couch, white with dark brown/black.
This loveseat is the closest I can find on IKEA at the moment.

These last two pictures just seem ... ideal to me.
Especially the first one, with the black leather and the gray cloth.

The placement of the frames is kind of awesome.
