Preparashun. I wants it.

So this morning, I finally took some time and figured out the dimensions of the (very expensive) stuff I bought from Crate and Barrel this weekend.

The Preston desk is 65w x 29d x 30h.

The Camden sofa is 69w x 33d x 35h.

There were more than a few moments of panic when I realized I didn't know the dimensions of either the elevator or my front door.

Thankfully, I was able to call the building, and as it turns out, everything fits. Got lucky that time. I will be sure to always look at measurements in the future, and to that end, have purchased a tape measure thing from Amazon.

It's only somewhat silly...

...to post pictures of rooms whose furniture contents are completely different from what I have purchased. But I kind of like this room, and it's a neat idea to keep the sofa in front of bookcases.

Wow.

Futurama only finished downloading last night. It only took all of ... 2.5 days. In that time, I also finished sorting out (and deleting) the pictures of decor I didn't like. I believe this one is by Nate Berkus...

I'm not so fond of the rug, but I really like that the juxtaposition of the (more) simple sofa with the (more) ornate chairs. Also, that bus roll is really cool. There are some real ones for sale on etsy, but there's not much selection and they're really expensive. The fake ones are both more numerous and more affordable, so I may just go for one of those...

Mac users are ridiculously artsy

This one worked their computer monitor into their wall of prints... Also, is that a Parsons desk with a reupholstered IKEA desk chair?

Matched Mismatched Stuff

I think the juxtaposition of the wallpapers is pretty cool, what with them having (sort of) opposite color schemes.

And here I really like the matched lamps in blue and black.

The sofa cushions in this picture come in pairs of yellow/red and circular/square, but the pairings are reversed. Awesome.

Different Seasons

Never thought I'd get excited about the Chicago winter, but this seems like a something you could only pull off in the coldest of places. If I have a balcony, I am so doing this.

Just look at that blue!

How freaking fantastic does it look with the white, black and dark brown?

Pottery Barn has "Sailor Blue" and "Navy," which are pretty close, available for pretty much everything. Crate and Barrel has a true ink blue, called "Ink," but that color's not available for quite a few pieces.

I am aware...

That this is a little boy's room. But I do so love the matched airplane prints! I shall be sure to look through old bookstores for old encyclopedias, atlases, and transit books that I can mercilessly loot for matched prints.

Also, check out that bridge set. Little boys always get the best toys.

Interesting idea

This bookshelf is kind of cool. Too bad the enantiomer version of this, where the shelf space points inwards, doesn't exist/isn't available. I think it'd be a great way to use corner space or something.

It's only now struck me...

Some of the apartments I'm considering are absolutely teeny-tiny. Like, 560 sq ft tiny. Many of the floor plans of the itty-bitty studios have a fair amount of space taken up by a long-ish hallway, so one idea I had was to have a sideboard in the entryway.

A lot of what comes up when searching for sideboards is vertical, at IKEA at least, so I've been looking elsewhere. Here are a few media centers that might work. They're all fairly short (around 36") and not that deep (around 17').

Tobo, $219

Liatorp, $299

Ikea PS, $99

Hemnes, $199

I'd need to get some sort of saw...

This IKEA hack is almost too simple, but totally doable at the same time. Customize your nightstand or sidetable by putting two Lack sidetables on top of each other, and cutting some height off the legs of the bottom one. I love tables with storage.

Not very handy...

Man, I thought I'd never regret not paying attention whenever my Dad was fixing stuff around the house. If I were the type of person who replaced knobs on dressers and things like that, I would want to use these old-school library catalog pull things.
