Lazy ambient lighting, expensive version

As I understand it, ambient lighting is largely determined by not only window placement, but also the number and strength of wall sconces and perhaps also ceiling lighting. I personally prefer rooms to be on the brighter side of things, but lack both the will and the know-how to futz with a room's wiring. Electricians remain employed for a reason, you know.

Clearly, the situation calls for some shopping.

Rex Table Lamp $158 (for the white and natural linen)
It's a box that emits light! Something about this is very exciting to me.
Sadly, this only works for tabletops.

Pablo Elise $108 for 12" and $370 for the 5'
Suitable for both tabletops and the floor.
How freaking gorgeous would the 5' one be?

Pablo Cortina $350-500

Mombo table lamp $116-242 (white and natural linen)

Meridian Floor Lamp $265
Very similar to the Pablo Elise, but clunkier looking.

Glo-Ball Table Lamp $500+
(No, seriously, you don't want to know.)

Devo Round Lamp $68
This would not be ugly with the soy base.
And this is not nearly in the same range of expensive as the other lamps.

Lucky you, Gregory Phillips

So I love these rooms, but I'm not sure I'd love them half as much in a different light. Gregory Phillips gets to decorate the best places. Seriously! In two of the following pictures, HE HAS NO WALL. And in the rest of them, he's got these lovely, huge windows spanning the entirety of the room.

All I think this illustrates is the importance of ambient lighting. Lovely 2Modern How-To on lighting here.

And although these pictures do are mostly wood tones/white, I do really like that the overall effect is quite colorful and homey.

Very expensive websites

Evinco and 2Modern are at least 3 or 4 times more expensive than IKEA in most categories, though their furniture is just so beautiful.

However, 2Modern has quite a selection of lamps and pillows for cheaper than elsewhere on the net.

Evinco is actually quite reasonable when it comes to armchairs and sofabeds. It's mind-boggling. Evinco has quite a selection of leather club chairs, starting around $300, which is actually quite comparable to some of IKEA's more expensive chairs. The only conceivable lesson here is to only purchase IKEA's cheaper chairs, or to maybe buy a lot of leather club chairs.

Why are whales so compelling?

It's not just me. Someone at UO thinks so too.

I have a long documented love affair with this first whale print. I first spotted in-store at the Soho UO sometime last summer, and instantly loved it. I didn't get it because of spatial constraints and because I was too lazy to haul a 20x34 frame home, so I bought some LP frames instead. The second time, it was at the MassAve UO, and I was again too lazy to carry it home, so I bought a whale ashtray instead. It will not escape me the third time.

Control

And then of course, I have to buy some more LP frames (to replace the one that broke when it fell behind the bookcase) and to add to my collection. Unfortunately, the ones I've got are silver, and there's only black and white available online.

Chrome Chairs

Contingency planning - apartments with chrome accents need furnishings too.

IKEA Smedsta $199
(in black, though the white is quite nice too)

IKEA Klappsta $199
(only available in white)

Vaguely pop art pillows

From the etsy store alexandra ferguson.

How much does this one remind you of that terrible Shaggy song?

I know someone who will really appreciate this last one. Perhaps I'll try to talk her into buying it for me.

Shit. How many pillows can one apartment contain? Also, how much money will i end up spending on pillows (which are largely non-functional)?

Oh no, there's another Karlstad chair

I think I like the other Karlstad chair better, but this one is cheaper by $20 in the grey color.

Sivik dark grey $279
